The first time I shopped at Salone del Mobile, I was shocked and awed by the amazing, breathtaking designs and selection. The craftmanship, innovation, and vastness of their selection had me flabbergasted.
But before I could own a single one,
I ran smack into a brick wall of frustration:
- Painfully long lead times – Weeks? No – months and years. Never-ending delays. Despite being in love with my pieces, I was eventually left wondering when (or if) my furniture would ever arrive. When it did, the beauty was never enough to counteract the sour taste in my mouth.
- No guarantees whatsoever – Except on defects of manufacture. Here I had paid thousands – in some cases, tens of thousands – on furniture without a single guarantee to put me at ease. This often meant months of sleepless nights for buyer’s remorse to seep in and cause me anxiety.
- Total lack of communication – I’d like to be kept in the dark, because at least that would mean I was being ignored. For this complete and total lack of customer service, it was like I didn’t even exist in their database as a customer. It felt like I was being gaslighted into acquiescence.
